Pre-Press & Print Operative

Astra Signs Ltd wish to recruit an experienced Pre-Press and Print Operative to join our Digital department

Previous experience with large format printing is essential

Qualities and Experience that are needed:


• The ability to work within a busy Studio ensuring high quality print and signage is produced at all times

• Working on both Apple Mac and Windows computers

• Experience of using rip software including Onyx Fiery and Esko Software to send files to the printers•Competent using Adobe Creative Suite

• The ability to prepare files for print: checking sizes, bleed, quality and colour management to ensure the quality of the end product 

• The ability to set up Print to Cut files for various plotters, routers and flatbed cutting machines

• Setting up and running digital printers both roll to roll and flatbed, loading and unloading machines

• Performing daily and weekly maintenance tasks and reporting any faults 

• Good Communications skills will be essential as well as being able to maintain and work in a clean environment

Signage & Graphics Project Manager


Astra Signs Ltd wish to recruit an experienced Signage & Graphic Project Manager for the new Sales and Manufacturing centre based in Trafford Park, Manchester.

Astra Signs Ltd are an established Signage and Large Format Graphics company based in Manchester and are currently looking for an experienced and talented Project Manager with Bespoke and Retail signage experience.  The successful candidate will have experience within the Signage Industry · MUST come from a similar organisation and have worked with similar clients · Must have a strong understanding on installation · Ideally have CSCS, IPAF and PASMA cards · MUST HAVE strong PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS · MUST be articulate and have strong communication skills · MUST be willing to travel on site and to work flexible hours DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES: · Carry initial site surveys · Create detailed Project Reports · Oversee projects from start to finish · Coordinate employees during site Installation. Meet with site contacts sucha as Signage/ Architectural signage / Project Manager / Contracts managers. 

Remuneration will be commensurate with the calibre of the successful candidate and experience.

Technical Estimator

  • Review Technical Drawings from Initial Enquiry / Tender
  • Define customers’ precise requirements & assist with specifications.
  • Decide on feasibility of fabrication based on British BS559 and European Standards including Structural and Electrical Design Consideration and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Plan, implement and schedule project timelines
  • Identify Sub Contractors where necessary and collate and negotiate costs.
  • Float Engineer non-stock materials.
  • Liaise & coordinate with all employees project based.


  • Engineering or Technical Signage Design experience essential.
  • Experience in Bespoke Signage Manufacture, Installation and Maintenance
  • Experience in Graphic Display – Large Format Digital Printing
  • Knowledge of Digital Signage and Signage Systems
  • Tharstens or Clarity system experience would be preferred.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

Installation Engineer / Supervisor

Your role will include the installation, of all types of internal and external signage, graphics and internally illuminated lettering.

  • PASMA, IPAF and CSCS certificates are required, however Astra Signs will invest in professional training in order complete these qualifications when necessary. 
  • You should be prepared to travel throughout the UK and stay away as necessary. Hotels and an overnight allowance are covered by the company.
  • Working at height will be required.
  • Clean driving license required.
  • Ideally holder of valid SMSTS certificate which recognises understanding of current Health & Safety standards.
  • A professional, positive outlook, attention to detail and excellent customer service is expected.

Graphic finisher

Your role will be to operate within the Digital Department around the large format printing equipment and will be tasked with mainly the following:

  • Laminating/finishing of Digital prints using various laminating films, onto various substrates
  • To be able to finish Pop-up graphics, roller banner graphics & finishing banners using our banner welding & sewing equipment, all to a high standard.

In addition to the above candidates with VINYL/PLOTTER operation skills, to be able to prepare, cut & apply vinyl to various surfaces including vehicles would have a distinct advantage
